Kateřina Makar Václavková (*1981) and Róbert Makar (*1970) present their second joint exhibition six years after their first show in Piešťany – *Perception Is Identity*. Building on that exhibition, they developed a project that continues the analysis of perception—how reality and concepts are perceived by the artists themselves and how the artworks are perceived by visitors.

The exhibition features new graphic works created through observation and experience of everyday reality, shifting objects into a new reality.

In a black-and-white graphic installation with minimal color accents, motifs of roads and books are multiplied, creating space for perceiving printmaking as a form of graphic communication. The visual graphic language of detail combined with spatial arrangement serves as a guide to perceiving and understanding the works. Classical techniques used by both artists—linocut and screen printing—are shifted to less usual levels of perception and communicate purely through graphic language. The project continues the tradition of raising questions about subjectivity in artistic representation and the transformation of real experiences into visual form—intensive reading of themes and methods of representation. That is, representation and its graphic rendering.

“If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro' narrow chinks of his cavern.” — William Blake, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell
