Annotation

*Exhibition title: RAMBLE - to wander, walk aimlessly, roam, stroll, fantasize

Ramble is a photographic project that was created during a study stay in Poland, in the city of Łódź. It emerged as a reaction to the situation of a person finding themselves in an unfamiliar place. The camera became an ideal means of escaping a specific place and time, as I attempted to capture the intangible – the atmosphere of the city.

During long walks, I focused on the changing light conditions and sun rays that transformed the impression of the surrounding architecture and guided my path. Fragments of reality captured on film negatives turned into blurred memories through the process. The external form of their storage became a photobook, representing the physical manifestation – a transformation from indefinite images into a structured composition and subsequent preservation, archiving.

Upon returning to my hometown of Trnava, I retained the habit of long walks as well as a certain way of looking at my surroundings. I continued the project and applied the same approach to an environment that was not foreign to me – quite the opposite. The captured images reveal small details and moments that become ordinary and invisible in a familiar setting.

In collaboration with designer Ervín Gejdoš, we published the book Ramble Trnava. The selection of photographs offers unconventional views of urban sceneries that do not depict landmarks or typical city symbols but instead uncover the atmosphere of inconspicuous nooks under specific lighting conditions. The photobook features over 80 photographs taken on 35mm film, inspiring the desire to wander aimlessly and rediscover familiar places.

Ramble Piešťany is currently an ongoing process of exploration and a specific way of perceiving urban corners. It brings viewers a fresh perspective on familiar places by isolating selected objects and placing them at the center of attention. An essential part of the process in analog photography is the shift in color tones, which also results in a shift in captured reality – a reality that is photographically transformed and simultaneously questioned. The reversed process is not about forgetting but about re-remembering through film negatives.
