How to make the world around us more humane?

It can also be done with a design that is human, empathetic, inclusive, caring, useful, emotional, healthy, meaningful, socially beneficial, economically beneficial, ecologically responsible and sustainable, in one word: humanistic...

We invite you to visit the exhibition HUMANITY IN DESIGN - Design in the context of the crisis, which is held as part of the 24th edition of the Design Forum exhibition.

The Slovak Design Centre brings to Nitra the well-known exhibition format Forum of Design, after a several-year pandemic break, with new energy and the theme of Humanity in Design! Students from the Department of Design, Department of Textile Creation and Department of Visual Communication of the AFAD are also presenting themselves at the exhibition. The curator of the exhibition is Silvia Seneši Lutherová from the Department of Art Theory and History.

The humanistic approach to design is represented at the exhibition by the realisations of 36 students, as well as collective projects from four universities teaching design in Slovakia. These are the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the Slovak Technical University, the Faculty of Arts of the Technical University in Košice and the Woodworking Faculty of the Technical University in Zvolen.

The exhibition is a unique reflection of the design of the pandemic and post-pandemic period: it presents works that were created during several years of the pandemic and have not yet been exhibited anywhere. At the same time, it also brings proposals that could not be implemented due to pandemic restrictions. Several of the projects are graduation works, others were created directly for the exhibition in the past academic year.

Various areas of design are represented at the exhibition: furniture and interior design, product and textile design, as well as visual communication and experimental design, in a unique collage of designs, research projects, models, experimental installations and prototypes ready for production.

The idea of design applying humanistic concepts and methods is currently spreading around the world as an acceptable alternative for the creation of objects, environments, systems and communications, which leads to a socially just, healthy and economically secured future of human civilization and at the same time to the preservation and prosperity of the entire ecosystem. As can be seen at the exhibition, the creation of conscious, responsible and sustainable design by the upcoming generation of designers is full of invention and creativity, which is passed on for the benefit of a better life for every person, without adverse impact on the next generations of human society, or other living organisms on our planet.

The exhibition is part of the 31st edition of the Furniture, Home Accessories, Design and Architecture Fair. The furniture and housing fair is an excellent platform for communicating the ideas of humanistic design to the general public. An important dimension of the event is also the stimulation of cooperation between schools, professional manufacturers and professional institutions. The Humanity in Design exhibition also presents several successfully implemented collaborations.
