Selection procedure - Professional Lecturer

The Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, with its registered seat at Hviezdoslavovo nám. 18, Bratislava, in accordance with Section 52(1) of Act No. 300/2025 Coll. on Higher Education and on amendments and supplements to certain acts, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the “Higher Education Act”), announces a selection procedure for the position of university teacher – lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava as follows:

University teacher in the position of professional lecturer

  • for the teaching of professional and chemical-technological subjects in the Studio of Restoration of Works on Paper and Other Media, with a focus on historical technologies and applied non-destructive research in the study programme Restoration, in the field of study Art, at the bachelor’s and master’s levels of study, assigned to the Department of Restoration.
  • Qualification requirements/conditions:

    • second-level university education in the relevant field, with the condition of commencing doctoral studies within one year,
    • teaching experience welcome,
    • creative and artistic-research abilities,
    • independent implementation of non-destructive research within the educational process,
    • active participation in the operation of the studio and in the pedagogical activities of the department,
    • ability to coordinate non-destructive research within individual student projects,
    • practical knowledge and use of the following methods: VIS imaging, XRF imaging, UV imaging, Raman spectroscopy, colorimetry, gloss measurement, classical spectrometry,
    • participation in the creation and development of the studio’s research databases,
    • defence of a written teaching concept and an adequate portfolio of artistic and scientific activity,
    • ability to independently cooperate in the operation of the study programme, lead workshops, and actively participate in public presentations, creative residencies, educational trips, and foreign business trips,
    • ability to adapt time-wise and coordinate with the team of the department and the university; the necessary time investment in working at AFAD,
    • knowledge of English and the ability to work in an international environment and cooperate with international students.

University teacher in the position of professional lecturer

  • for the teaching of professional core subjects in the Studio of Painting Restoration and the Laboratory of Panel Painting Restoration, with a specialisation in teaching the restoration of panel paintings and icons in the study programme Restoration, at the bachelor’s and master’s levels of study, in the field of study Art, assigned to the Department of Restoration.
  • Qualification requirements/conditions:

    • second-level university education in the relevant field,
    • teaching experience welcome,
    • creative and artistic-research abilities,
    • defence of a written teaching concept and an adequate portfolio of artistic activity,
    • ability to independently cooperate in the operation of the study programme, lead workshops, and actively participate in public presentations, creative residencies, educational trips, and foreign business trips,
    • ability to adapt time-wise and coordinate with the team of the department and the university; the necessary time investment in working at AFAD,
    • knowledge of English and the ability to work in an international environment and cooperate with international students.

Required documentation for the selection procedure:

  • application form – written application for participation in the selection procedure, including consent to the processing of personal data in accordance with Act No. 18/2018 Coll. on the Protection of Personal Data and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, as amended. The application must include: personal data – name, surname, address, contact details – email, telephone number, and the exact name of the position in which the candidate is interested.
  • structured curriculum vitae, containing name and surname only, without personal data or photograph,
  • officially certified copy of a document proving the highest level of education attained, second or third level; internal employees do not need to submit officially certified education documents; a copy of the document proving the highest level of education attained is sufficient.
  • extract from the criminal record not older than 3 months,
  • written teaching concept,
  • brief portfolio of artistic or scientific activity,
  • overview of teaching activity: length of teaching experience, names of subjects taught, etc.,
  • overview of artistic, professional, and publication activity; where possible, documented by an extract from CREUČ and CREPČ,
  • overview of artistic-scientific, professional, and publication activity; where possible, documented by an extract from CREUČ and CREPČ,
  • affidavit on other employment relationships with universities based or operating in the territory of the Slovak Republic, as well as abroad, concluded for the performance of work as a university teacher or research worker, including information on weekly working time, for the purpose of proving the fact under Section 74(5) of the Higher Education Act,
  • All documents must be submitted both in printed and electronic form, on a USB flash drive.

  • In the case of documents on education obtained abroad, an official translation into Slovak is also required.

Salary conditions:

  • in accordance with the applicable legal regulations of Act No. 553/2003 on the remuneration of employees performing work in the public interest, i.e. according to the special salary tariff scale for university teachers.

Job description:

  • the expected job description is in accordance with Section 75 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions, as amended.

General admission conditions:

  • fulfilment of the required admission conditions,
  • complete submission of the required documentation for the selection procedure,
  • personal participation in the selection procedure.

Course of the selection procedure:

  • presentation of artistic or scientific and teaching activity, approx. 15 minutes,
  • presentation of the proposed teaching concept, approx. 15 minutes,
  • discussion with the members of the committee and defence of the submitted teaching concept.
