Selection procedure - Professional Lecturer

The Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, with its registered seat at Hviezdoslavovo nám. 18, Bratislava, in accordance with Section 52(1) of Act No. 300/2025 Coll. on Higher Education and on amendments and supplements to certain acts, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the “Higher Education Act”), announces a selection procedure for the position of university teacher – lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava as follows:

1. University teacher in the position of specialist lecturer

  • University teacher in the position of specialist lecturer providing professional instruction in the moulding of sculptures and objects; independently operating and managing the Plaster Workshop; and contributing to specialist courses focused on sculptural technologies and techniques (moulding and casting), as well as studio instruction in the bachelor’s degree programme Intermedia (Sculpture specialisation) and the master’s degree programme Visual Arts (Sculpture specialisation), within the field of study Art, at the Department of Sculpture, Object, Installation.

1.1. Qualification requirements:

  • a second-cycle university degree in a relevant field,
  • at least 10 years of professional experience in a plaster workshop and mould preparation workshop (moulding objects, producing casts, laminating, preparing wax models and preparing casting moulds),
  • demonstrable professional expertise in the technology and practice of plaster workshop operations,
  • teaching experience is an advantage,
  • ability to contribute independently to the operation of the study programme,
  • ability to adapt schedules and coordinate with the department and university team, including the necessary time commitment to working at VŠVU,
  • ability to work with international students in English.

2. University teacher in the position of specialist lecturer

  • University teacher in the position of specialist lecturer providing professional instruction in metal casting and the processing and finishing of castings; independently operating and managing the Non-Ferrous Metal Foundry; and contributing to specialist courses focused on sculptural technologies and techniques (Metalworking Technologies – Casting) in the bachelor’s degree programme Intermedia (Sculpture specialisation) and the master’s degree programme Visual Arts (Sculpture specialisation), within the field of study Art, at the Department of Sculpture, Object, Installation.

2.1. Qualification requirements:

  • a second-cycle university degree in a relevant field,
  • at least 5 years of professional experience in non-ferrous metal casting and the preparation of casting moulds (moulding, preparing wax models, preparing casting moulds, metal casting, chasing, patination, grinding, welding and finishing castings),
  • demonstrable professional expertise in metal-casting technology,
  • teaching experience is an advantage,
  • ability to contribute independently to the operation of the study programme,
  • ability to adapt schedules and coordinate with the department and university team, including the necessary time commitment to working at VŠVU,
  • ability to work with international students in English.

Documents required for the selection procedure:

  • application form – a written application to participate in the selection procedure, including consent to the processing of personal data in accordance with Act No. 18/2018 Coll. on Personal Data Protection and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, as amended. The application must include the applicant’s personal details – first name, surname, address and contact details (email address and telephone number) – as well as the exact title of the position for which the applicant is applying,
  • structured CV containing the applicant’s first name and surname, without other personal data or a photograph,
  • an officially certified copy of a document confirming the highest level of education attained (second or third cycle). Internal employees are not required to submit officially certified education documents; a copy of the document confirming the highest level of education attained is sufficient,
  • an extract from the Criminal Records Register issued no more than three months previously,
  • a written teaching proposal,
  • a concise portfolio of artistic or scientific activity,
  • a statutory declaration concerning any other employment relationships with higher education institutions based or operating in the Slovak Republic or abroad, concluded for the performance of work as a university teacher or researcher, specifying the weekly working hours (for the purpose of demonstrating compliance with Section 74(5) of the Higher Education Act),
  • All documents must be submitted in both printed and electronic form (on a USB flash drive).

  • Education documents issued abroad must also be accompanied by an official translation into Slovak.

Salary conditions:

  • in accordance with the applicable provisions of Act No. 553/2003 Coll. on the Remuneration of Certain Employees Performing Work in the Public Interest, i.e. according to the special salary scale applicable to university teachers.

Job description:

  • the anticipated job responsibilities shall comply with Section 52 of Act No. 300/2025 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions, as amended.

General conditions for appointment:

  • fulfilment of the required appointment criteria,
  • submission of all documents required for the selection procedure,
  • personal attendance at the selection procedure.

Selection procedure:

  • presentation of artistic or scientific and teaching activities (approximately 15 minutes),
  • presentation of the proposed teaching concept (approximately 15 minutes),
  • discussion with the members of the selection committee and defence of the submitted teaching concept.
