Annotation of the books

The Culture of Neural Networks: Synthetic Literature and Art in (Not Only) the Czech and Slovak Context by Karel Piorecký and Zuzana Husárová, published by Karolinum, reflects, denigrates and critically analyses the phenomena and artefacts associated with the penetration of artificial neural networks into the literary and artistic spheres. At the same time, it correlates the generated works with older forms of experimentation and places the phenomenon of synthetic creation in a historical or developmental context. Doc. Jana Horáková wrote the following about the book: "The author duo - Karel Piorecký and Zuzana Husárová - have swiftly undertaken the task of providing a critical reflection on the worldwide boom of AI-applications for generating literary, visual and sound works. The book is not only a lucid excursus into the history of the use of generative media in Czech and Slovak art and culture, but also provides a geographically, disciplinarily and conceptually broad framework for navigating today's raging debate about the impact of AI on our civilization, fed by the marketing slogans of AI companies and journalistic clickbait headlines."

"Shape of Future Earth" is a collection of essays by visiting fellows of the Digital Arts Platform at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. The book explores different ways of referencing the future planet. It considers non-anthropocentric perspectives, explores the matrix and computational intelligences as acting entities, delineates the limits of scientific models and their situational uses, and names the impact of war on the ecology of the earth and the bodies within it. The essays were written by Enda O'Riordan, Lenka Hamošová, Oleksii Kuchansky, Natália Trejbalová, Lukáš Likavčan, and editor András Cséfalvay.
