Are you ready to let a machine examine and imitate you? Experience a personalized visual journey at White Night!

The MIMIC project explores the concept of imitation, examining not just interactions between individuals, but also how machines mimic human behavior for machine learning purposes. Utilizing computer vision technology, MIMIC tracks and analyzes human movement and physical traits. The system identifies individuals and displays their digital doubles on a screen, surrounded by dynamic objects that change in response to the observed characteristics. This installation offers a unique reflection of each viewer.

MediaLab*

Antonín Kindl, Linda Berkyová, Dominika Korbašová, Terézia Jandušíková, Hugo Hrivňák

MediaLab* is a multimedia studio within the Department of Visual Communication at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. It provides a technological, theoretical, and human framework for studying key phenomena such as time, interactivity, and multimedia in visual communication. Founded through the initiative of designer and educator Ján Šicko, MediaLab* began in 2005 with workshops and presentations on VJing and animation. The studio addresses practical aspects of working with technology while also engaging with the broader context of multimedia culture. Within the Department of Visual Communication, MediaLab* explores the intersections and thematic overlaps of graphic design.

Ján Šicko / Flow

  • Interactive installation
  • Propeller - Námestie Ľudovíta Štúra

Immerse yourself in FLOW, a large-scale interactive projection that allows you to influence its visual character through intuitive controls. You can engage with the dynamic, generative graphics, which continuously flow, evolve, and change. Just like a stone thrown into water creates ripples that gradually disappear, the visitor's interaction with the artwork temporarily alters its visual appearance, leaving a gradually fading trace.

Rediscover your inner child as you blow into a propeller and watch your breath bring Roman Mackovič's audiovisual installation to life at Café Emil in the Mirbach Palace. By interacting with this spatial construction - composed of a hundred LED modules - your breath activates beams of light. When these beams intersect, they trigger a sound accompaniment. Through digital algorithms, a reactive and dynamic audiovisual composition emerges, pulling you into the experience and inviting you to engage with the space.

Roman Mackovič (SK) is an artist, designer, and educator at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava (MediaLab* studio, Digital Art platform). His work centers on post-digital creation and physical computing - the creation of physical objects with digital elements. He has designed several interactive installations and objects that invite viewers to engage, touch, and influence the work. As an educator, he teaches artists and designers the fundamentals of electronics, microcontroller programming, and multimedia integration.

Viktória Revická / Kvasný pohyb

  • Movement performance
  • Beginning by the sculpture Čumil
  • 5. 10. 2024, 20.00, 21.00

Come and be inspired as you immerse yourself in the fermenting process, brought to life through a captivating movement performance. The non-human motions of single cells, their sounds, and the living essence of yeast collectively draw in your attention, relax the body, and heighten your awareness of a world usually invisible to the naked eye. The performance itself becomes like yeast within a fermenting culture, undergoing its own natural process of transformation.

Performers (in alphabetical order):

Juraj Bilený, Dominik Dolník, Lucia Kupcová, Julia Pabst, Viktória Revická, Michal Zoller

Viktória Revická (SK) primarily focuses on performativity but also works with original texts, video, food, fermentation, and plants. She taps into the vulnerability of both the living and non-living environment, conveying it to us through visual metaphors and her own unique language. Her creative approach reflects a deep interest in the relationship with our surroundings, ecology, intuition, fermentation processes, and the concept of slowing down. She is a graduate of the Department of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava

Don't miss the unique fusion of sports and contemporary art, from literature and sound poetry to dance, music, and lighting design. This visually striking multimedia performance is the result of interdisciplinary collaboration between synchronized swimmers, dancers, choreographers Monika Thüringerová (coach of the Slovak national team) and Addy (dance), lighting designers from CTRL_space studio, poet and performer Zuzana Husárová, architect Elena Šoltésová, and musician Ľubomír Panák.

Together, they explore the symbolism of the water surface – emergence, distortion, and submergence of values, thoughts, actions, and relationships. In doing so, they raise questions buried beneath the surface (not only) about the state of our society and the search for truth amidst a flood of disinformation. This experimental kaleidoscope of art and sports, the first of its kind in Slovakia, promises an engaging experience for all generations.

Marek Kvetan / Big Fat Diamonds

Q-tan BN24

The Main Square in Bratislava will host monumental works by Slovak artist Marek Kvetan. These oversized, deformed representations of precious stones—diamonds, brilliants, and rubies—explore themes of consumption, economic growth, and sustainability. Kvetan presents these diamonds as inflated, oversized toys, questioning their perceived eternal value. The reality of diamond extraction, processing, and distribution is controlled by a handful of companies, often accused of price manipulation, exploitation, and connections to conflicts in Africa. Despite their hardness and brilliant light dispersion, diamonds eventually transform into graphite through a lengthy process, turning into a less energy-intensive form of carbon. Kvetan’s inflatable sculptures were created using 3D scanning and digital modeling techniques.

Marek Kvetan (SK) is a Slovak multimedia artist and a significant presence in the Central European art scene. He studied at the Department of Sculpture at Academy of Fine Arta and Design (VŠVU) in Bratislava, the Department of Fine Arts at VUT in Brno, and the Department of Painting, again at VŠVU. Kvetan’s work integrates post-conceptual approaches with a focus on calculation, conceptual thinking, and dual coding. He employs analytical methods across various media, with recent concentrations on digital prints and object creation.
