Viktória Revická: Death in the Ecosystem
A series of workshops within the Performance Laboratory is opened by Viktória Revická. The first workshop brings movement and somatic research into death as a transformational process and invites sensitive attention to the body and its relationships in the wider ecosystem. Viktória Revická is a visual artist and performer. In her work, she connects performativity with text, food, fermentation and plants and explores the relationships between the human and the more-than-human environment. She is a graduate of the Department of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava.
The workshop Death in the Ecosystem is based on the idea of death not as a definitive end, but as a change of state – part of the cycle of decomposition and the continuation of life in another form. It focuses on the movement research of the transformation of a non-human body: the moment when internal processes stop, activity moves outward and the body becomes part of a wider ecosystem – soil, compost or fertilizer for further life. The workshop also raises the question of to what extent the understanding of death as finality is an anthropocentric construct.
