Annotation

Can textile open up a space in which it becomes not only a medium, but also a way of existing in relation to time, memory, and oneself? Can text, diary entries, and reflections on reading and writing become a form of textile work? Does fear of loss, but also fear of creation, have a place in the artist’s work? Who is asking these questions, and who is trying to answer them? Who is trying to make sure that you see them in her works and attempt to think them through?

The exhibition entitled To Allow / To Release consists of two parts. One is a work created in 2023. The other has been taking place over the past months, at the turn of 2025/26, and remains continuously in process. Both are engaged in a mutual dialogue, even if this may not be entirely obvious at first glance. The first addresses memory as something fragile, fragmentary, and at the same time deeply rooted in the body and in relationships. The second rewrites this experience into the plane of time and process, where slowing down becomes a way of carrying this fragility.

Textile thus functions as a link between generations. Between presence and absence. Between the past and present experience. Textile is transformed from language into practice, from statement into experience.

Viktória Bakušová (2000) is currently a diploma student at the Department of Textile Design at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, in the Studio of Textile Design in Space led by Blanka Cepková.
