Annotation
Workshop on Connecting is an exhibition defined by two key concepts. The first is "workshop," which designates a place for creation and collaboration. The second is "connecting," which represents a fundamental construction principle in design while also referring to the connections between people.
The concept of the project emerged from conversations between Katarína Martincová, director of Vstúpte n.o., a social services organization for people with intellectual disabilities in Malacky, and designer Marián Laššák. Their goal was to create an "experimental" creative platform for connection through design and art.
The exhibition presents a series of objects in the form of furniture fragments, combined into seemingly random compositions. These are the result of communication between the artist and the recipients of the facility, achieved through working with materials. The resulting objects are not the main goal of the creative process. Rather, their realization serves as a means for dialogue and mutual understanding. This is a pilot project, opening the door to ongoing collaboration that reflects the need for communication between the general population and people with specific needs.
Marián Laššák
Marián Laššák is a designer and educator at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. His work focuses on projects with positive social impact, using design as a communication tool to address social issues.
Vstúpte, n.o.
Vstúpte n.o. is a non-profit organization in Malacky that provides social services for adults with intellectual disabilities, both in outpatient and residential forms. Vstúpte also runs a sheltered workshop, employing five people with intellectual disabilities and three work assistants.
The organization's goal, besides integrating people with intellectual disabilities into everyday society and life to the greatest extent possible, is to influence and change the attitudes, views, and perceptions of the majority toward people with disabilities. They aim to highlight the fact that every person should have a place in society and that we are mutually beneficial to one another.
The participants in the project were not pre-selected. They gradually became involved in the process based on their own decisions and interest.
