About the exhibition
At home, a large portrait hangs on the wall. Old colored photograph of a young woman in costume. It is the face of my great-grandmother's sister, my maternal grandmother's godmother. Amalia Vašutová was born on February 23, 1917 as the second-born daughter in a beekeeper's family in the Horná Bečva valley, where she lived her entire life. In the winter of 1945, the Gestapo came to her home. She was imprisoned in Horná Bečva, Valašské Meziříčí, and then in Brno in Kounice railways for her support and cooperation with the partisans. She never returned home to Horná Bečva. Her parents and relatives never found out what happened to Malka, as everyone called her at home. However, they never stopped believing that they would return one day. Only a few years ago, the family learned that she was in Brno in March of 1945 executed by shooting. The last letter Malka wrote to her family after her arrest ends with the words: "It's my fate." The Malka exhibition is dedicated to her memory.
