Annotation
The project "Sculpture in the City," organized by the Turiec Gallery in Martin since 2003, has long focused on reflecting art in public space. It is based on the belief that art should not only be a decorative element of the urban environment but also a critical tool for examining historical, social, and cultural contexts.
The 10th edition of the project brings collaboration with the Department of Sculpture, Object, and Installation at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, opening up space for new approaches and discussions about the perception of public space.
The presentation will focus on the project's results so far, its development in the context of changing conditions of public space, and the ways in which individual editions have dealt with themes of historical memory, city identity, and artistic intervention as a tool of critical reflection. At the same time, it will attempt to assess its significance within the broader framework of regional initiatives and the possibilities that similar projects offer in contemporary cultural practice.
Adam Galko (*1993)
Adam Galko works as a curator at the Turiec Gallery in Martin, focusing mainly on research of art in public space. He is the co-author of the monograph "Fraňo Štefunko - The Third Dimension of a Changing Era," which for the first time provides a complete list of the author's works within his chamber, monumental, and medal-making creations. As part of his external doctoral studies at Comenius University in Bratislava, he is researching the acquisition program and provenance of works of Slovak fine art modernism in the collections of the Slovak National Gallery.
