Laboratory of Performance Art at The Others Art Fair 2025 in Turin

The Laboratory of Performance Art at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (AFAD), led by Maja Štefančíková, presented new works by its students at The Others Art Fair in Turin (30 October – 2 November 2025).

The project In the Rhythm of the Algorithm responded to the main theme of the fair The Future Is Here, Right Nowand presented three performances exploring how algorithms and artificial intelligence shape our perception and behaviour.

Julia Pabst – Just Dance

The performance worked with the principle of dance video games and AI-generated instructions that dictated choreography to popular music. What began as playful entertainment gradually shifted into an algorithmic dictate of nonsensical and increasingly demanding movements. The piece examined the limits of the human body when confronted with a system that knows neither fatigue nor error.

Tomáš Brichta – Questions and Answers

A repeated risky gesture of throwing a stone above one’s own face created tension between the desire for control and the threat of impact. The performance offered a metaphor for the everyday uncertainty that algorithmic systems introduce into our lives.

Michaela Prablesková – Give Me Your Phone And I Will Tell You Who You Are

In a fictional fortune-telling booth, instead of reading cards, the performer “read” the visitor’s unlocked phone. Its data became the basis for a darkly humorous prediction of the future, ending with the participant facing an absurd choice: buy a protective talisman or risk the publication of a compromising photograph.
