Selection procedure - Professional Lecturer

The Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, with its registered seat at Hviezdoslavovo nám. 18, Bratislava, in accordance with Section 52(1) of Act No. 300/2025 Coll. on Higher Education and on amendments and supplements to certain acts, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the “Higher Education Act”), announces a selection procedure for the position of university teacher – lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava as follows:

University teacher in the position of professional lecturer

  • for teaching the compulsory course Preparatory Painting Studio for the 1st year of the bachelor’s level of study and for teaching professional courses in the Painting study programme at the bachelor’s level in the field of study Art, with placement at the Department of Painting.
  • Qualification requirements/conditions:

    • second-level university degree in the relevant field,
    • artistic practice: active and established artistic activity in the field of contemporary painting, documented by a portfolio,
    • teaching experience in the field is welcome,
    • ability to conduct professional dialogue, methodically lead a compulsory course, create teaching plans and respond flexibly to changes in the study programme in connection with preparation for study in specialised studios,
    • ability to independently cooperate in the operation of the study programme, administratively and production-wise ensure the operation of the preparatory studio, lead workshops, actively participate in public presentations, creative residencies, educational programmes and international business trips,
    • ability to adapt time-wise and coordinate with the department and university team (necessary time investment in working at AFAD) in the joint planning and implementation of its strategic development,
    • knowledge of English and ability to operate in an international environment and cooperate with international students.

Required documentation for the selection procedure:

  • application form – written application to participate in the selection procedure, including consent to the processing of personal data in accordance with Act No. 18/2018 Coll. on Personal Data Protection and on amendments and supplements to certain acts, as amended. The application must include: personal data – name, surname, address, contact – email, telephone, and the exact title of the position in which the candidate is interested.
  • structured CV (limited to name and surname, without personal data or photograph),
  • officially certified copy of the document confirming the highest level of education achieved (second or third level), (internal employees do not need to submit officially certified education documents; a copy of the document confirming the highest level of education achieved is sufficient.
  • criminal record extract not older than 3 months,
  • written teaching concept,
  • brief portfolio of artistic or scientific activity,
  • overview of teaching activity (length of teaching experience, titles of courses taught, etc.),
  • overview of artistic, professional and publication activity, where possible documented by CREUČ and CREPČ records,
  • overview of artistic-scientific, professional and publication activity, where possible documented by CREUČ and CREPČ records,
  • affidavit on other employment relationships with higher education institutions based or operating in the Slovak Republic or abroad, concluded for the performance of work as a university teacher or researcher, including information on weekly working time (for the purpose of proving the fact pursuant to Section 74(5) of the Higher Education Act),
  • All materials must be submitted in both printed and electronic form (on a USB drive).

  • In the case of education documents from abroad, an official translation into Slovak is also required.

Salary conditions:

  • in accordance with the applicable legal regulations of Act No. 553/2003 on the remuneration of employees performing work in the public interest, i.e. according to the special salary tariff scale for university teachers.

Job description:

  • expected job description in accordance with Section 75 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions, as amended.

General admission conditions:

  • fulfilment of the required admission conditions,
  • complete submission of the required documentation for the selection procedure,
  • personal attendance at the selection procedure.

Selection procedure:

  • presentation of artistic or scientific and teaching activity (approx. 15 min.),
  • presentation of the proposed teaching concept (approx. 15 min.),
  • discussion with the members of the committee and defence of the submitted teaching concept.
