Selection procedure for the position of university teacher Visual Communication

The Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, with its registered office at Hviezdoslavovo nám. 18, Bratislava, in accordance with Section 52(1) of Act No. 300/2025 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions and on amendments to certain acts, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the “Higher Education Act”), hereby announces a selection procedure to fill the positions of university teacher – Associate Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, as follows:

University teacher in the position of Associate Professor

for leading the teaching of the compulsory profile course Studio Typolab and courses focused on type design and typography in the Visual Communication study programme in the field of study Art at the bachelor’s level, and in the Design study programme in the field of study Art at the master’s level, with placement at the Department of Visual Communication, with the possibility of acting as a programme-guaranteeing teacher in the position of Associate Professor.
Qualification requirements
- EDUCATION:
- completion of second-level university education with the award of the artistic-pedagogical title or scientific-pedagogical title “Associate Professor” before 01.09.2020, or
- completion of third-level university education with the award of the artistic-pedagogical title or scientific-pedagogical title “Associate Professor”, or
- completion of third-level university education without the awarded artistic-pedagogical or scientific-pedagogical title “Associate Professor”. The candidate shall prove fulfilment of the criteria arising from the required level of criteria for obtaining the title of Associate Professor at the university in the relevant field of habilitation proceedings assigned to the field of study to which the position is linked, which under the conditions of the university means that they must meet the Qualification Criteria for habilitation proceedings (Annex No. 2).
- teaching experience of at least 6 years, including doctoral studies,
- creative and artistic-research abilities,
- defence of a written teaching concept and an adequate portfolio of artistic activity,
- ability to independently cooperate in the operation of the study programme, lead workshops, actively participate in public presentations, creative residencies, educational trips and international business trips,
- ability to adapt time-wise and coordinate with the platform and university team (necessary time investment in working at AFAD),
- scientific-research abilities,
- knowledge of English and ability to operate in an international environment and cooperate with international students.

University teacher in the position of Associate Professor

for leading the teaching of the compulsory profile course Preparatory Course Space and for teaching courses with an emphasis on the use of analogue and digital technologies in creation and post-production processes in the Visual Communication study programme in the field of study Art at the bachelor’s level, and in the Design study programme in the field of study Art at the master’s level, with placement at the Department of Visual Communication, with the possibility of acting as a programme-guaranteeing teacher in the position of Associate Professor.
Qualification requirements
- EDUCATION:
- completion of second-level university education with the award of the artistic-pedagogical title or scientific-pedagogical title “Associate Professor” before 01.09.2020, or
- completion of third-level university education with the award of the artistic-pedagogical title or scientific-pedagogical title “Associate Professor”, or
- completion of third-level university education without the awarded artistic-pedagogical or scientific-pedagogical title “Associate Professor”. The candidate shall prove fulfilment of the criteria arising from the required level of criteria for obtaining the title of Associate Professor at the university in the relevant field of habilitation proceedings assigned to the field of study to which the position is linked, which under the conditions of the university means that they must meet the Qualification Criteria for habilitation proceedings (Annex No. 2).

Required documentation for the selection procedure:

application form – written application to participate in the selection procedure, including consent to the processing of personal data in accordance with Act No. 18/2018 Coll. on Personal Data Protection and on amendments and supplements to certain acts, as amended. The application must include: personal data – name, surname, address, contact – email, telephone, and the exact title of the position in which the candidate is interested.
Structured CV (limited to name and surname, without personal data or photograph),
officially certified copy of the document confirming the highest level of education achieved (second or third level), (internal employees do not need to submit officially certified education documents; a copy of the document confirming the highest level of education achieved is sufficient.
criminal record extract not older than 3 months,
written teaching concept,
documents in accordance with the Principles of the Selection Procedure and the published announcement of the selection procedure (Annex No. 2), for candidates with third-level education and without the awarded artistic-pedagogical title “Associate Professor”.
brief portfolio of artistic or scientific activity,
overview of teaching activity (length of teaching experience, titles of courses taught, etc.),
overview of artistic, professional and publication activity, where possible documented by CREUČ and CREPČ records,
overview of artistic-scientific, professional and publication activity, where possible documented by CREUČ and CREPČ records,
affidavit on other employment relationships with higher education institutions based or operating in the Slovak Republic or abroad, concluded for the performance of work as a university teacher or researcher, including information on weekly working time (for the purpose of proving the fact pursuant to Section 49(5) of the Higher Education Act),

All materials must be submitted in both printed and electronic form (on a USB drive).

In the case of education documents from abroad, an official translation into Slovak is also required.

Salary conditions:

in accordance with the applicable legal regulations of Act No. 553/2003 on the remuneration of employees performing work in the public interest, i.e. according to the special salary tariff scale for university teachers.
