Selection procedure for the position of university teacher Conservation and Restoration

The Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, with its registered seat at Hviezdoslavovo nám. 18, Bratislava, in accordance with Section 52(1) of Act No. 300/2025 Coll. on Higher Education and on amendments and supplements to certain acts, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the “Higher Education Act”), announces a selection procedure for the position of university teacher – assistant professor at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava as follows:

University teacher in the position of assistant professor

  • for teaching the compulsory profile courses Studio of Sculpture Preparation and Preparatory Sculpture Course, and courses focused on the theory and history of fine art and the theory and history of restoration in the Restoration study programme in the field of study Art at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, with placement at the Department of Restoration.

  • Qualification requirements/conditions:

    • third-level university degree in the relevant field,
    • teaching experience of at least 3 years, including doctoral studies,
    • creative and artistic-research abilities,
    • defence of a written teaching concept and an adequate portfolio of artistic and scientific activity,
    • ability to independently cooperate in the operation of the study programme, lead workshops, actively participate in public presentations, creative residencies, educational trips and international business trips,
    • ability to adapt time-wise and coordinate with the department and university team (necessary time investment in working at AFAD),
    • knowledge of English and ability to operate in an international environment and cooperate with international students.

University teacher in the position of assistant professor at 50% workload

  • for teaching professional chemical-technological courses focused on all studio specialisations of the Department of Restoration, in the Restoration study programme in the field of study Art at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, with placement at the Department of Restoration.

  • Qualification requirements/conditions:

    • third-level university degree in the relevant field,
    • teaching experience of at least 3 years, including doctoral studies,
    • creative and artistic-research abilities,
    • defence of a written teaching concept and an adequate portfolio of artistic and scientific activity,
    • ability to independently cooperate in the operation of the study programme, lead workshops, actively participate in public presentations, creative residencies, educational trips and international business trips,
    • ability to adapt time-wise and coordinate with the department and university team (necessary time investment in working at AFAD),
    • knowledge of English and ability to operate in an international environment and cooperate with international students.

University teacher in the position of assistant professor

  • for teaching the compulsory profile courses Preparatory Painting Course, Studio of Painting Preparation for Restorers, Preventive Restoration, Retouching, and for cooperation in chemical-technological research and historical technologies in the Restoration study programme at the bachelor’s level in the field of study Art, with placement at the Department of Restoration.

  • Qualification requirements/conditions:

    • third-level university degree in the relevant field,
    • teaching experience of at least 3 years, including doctoral studies,
    • creative and artistic-research abilities,
    • restoration practice is welcome,
    • defence of a written teaching concept and an adequate portfolio of artistic and scientific activity,
    • ability to independently cooperate in the operation of the study programme, lead workshops, actively participate in public presentations, creative residencies, educational trips and international business trips,
    • ability to adapt time-wise and coordinate with the department and university team (necessary time investment in working at AFAD),
    • knowledge of English and ability to operate in an international environment and cooperate with international students.

Required documentation for the selection procedure:

  • application form – written application to participate in the selection procedure, including consent to the processing of personal data in accordance with Act No. 18/2018 Coll. on Personal Data Protection and on amendments and supplements to certain acts, as amended. The application must include: personal data – name, surname, address, contact – email, telephone, and the exact title of the position in which the candidate is interested.

  • officially certified copy of the document confirming the highest level of university education achieved, (internal employees do not need to submit officially certified education documents; a copy of the document confirming the highest level of education achieved is sufficient.
  • criminal record extract not older than 3 months,
  • written teaching concept,
  • brief portfolio of artistic or scientific activity,
  • overview of teaching activity (length of teaching experience, titles of courses taught, etc.),
  • overview of artistic, professional and publication activity, where possible documented by CREUČ and CREPČ records,
  • overview of artistic-scientific, professional and publication activity, where possible documented by CREUČ and CREPČ records,
  • affidavit on other employment relationships with higher education institutions based or operating in the Slovak Republic or abroad, concluded for the performance of work as a university teacher or researcher, including information on weekly working time (for the purpose of proving the fact pursuant to Section 74(5) of the Higher Education Act)

  • all materials must be submitted in both printed and electronic form (on a USB drive)

  • In the case of education documents from abroad, an official translation into Slovak is also required.

Salary conditions:

  • Salary conditions: in accordance with the applicable legal regulations of Act No. 553/2003 on the remuneration of employees performing work in the public interest, i.e. according to the special salary tariff scale for university teachers.

Job description:

  • expected job description in accordance with Section 52 of Act No. 300/2025 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions, as amended.

General admission conditions:

  • fulfilment of the required admission conditions,
  • complete submission of the required documentation for the selection procedure,
  • personal attendance at the selection procedure.

Selection procedure:

  • presentation of artistic or scientific and teaching activity (approx. 15 min.),
  • presentation of the proposed teaching concept (approx. 15 min.),
  • discussion with the members of the committee and defence of the submitted teaching concept.
