Filip Bielek – Enchanted Bratislava
Events of Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava.
Curator: Miroslava Urbanová
Venue: For maat, Železničná 3, Trencin, Slovakia
The exhibition “Enchanted Bratislava” seeks to highlight the problematic nature of understanding and shaping public space in our territory after 1989, both from an architectural and urban planning perspective. In this process, public interest often loses out to private investment interests. The reality of bizarre new buildings sprouting across Slovakia, and most prominently in our capital city, has already become a kind of historical layer—formally and conceptually hollow—that raises the question: Who does public space really belong to? To all of us, or just to a handful of chosen ones who manipulate it at will? Who is its true master?
Filip Bielek comes from Bratislava. In 2010, he graduated from the Josef Vydra School of Applied Arts in Bratislava, Department of Stone Sculpture, under academic sculptor Vojtech Pohanka. He then continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Department of Sculpture, Object, Installation, in the studio Sculpture in Architecture and Public Space led by Doc. Mgr. art. Patrik Kovačovský. In 2014–2015, he completed a study stay at UAP Poznań (PL) in the studio of Marcin Berdyszak.
