Call for Applications – Assistant Professor for teaching theoretical subjects

Events of Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava.

The Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, with its registered office at Hviezdoslavovo nám. 18, Bratislava, in accordance with Section 77(1) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the “Higher Education Act”), hereby announces a selection procedure for filling the position of a university teacher in the job position of Assistant Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava as follows:

  • University teacher in the position of Assistant Professor for teaching theoretical subjects focused on the history and theory of visual arts, the history and theory of modern and contemporary art; for teaching the course Selected Chapters from Modern and Contemporary Visual Art in English; and for teaching a course focused on the history of Ukrainian art for Ukrainian and Slovak students in Slovak and Ukrainian languages within study programmes in the field of Art at the Bachelor’s level, study programmes in the field of Art at the Master’s level, and the study programme History and Practice of Contemporary Art in the field of Arts and Culture Studies at the Master’s level, assigned to the Department of Theory and History of Art, with the possibility to act as a coordinator of cooperation with partner institutions in Ukraine.

Qualification requirements:

  • Third-level (PhD) higher education in the relevant field of study,
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience (including doctoral studies),
  • Defense of a written teaching concept,
  • Ability to independently cooperate in the operation of the study programme, lead workshops, actively participate in public presentations, residencies, educational trips, and international business trips,
  • Ability to adapt time-wise and coordinate with the KTDU team (necessary time commitment to work at AFAD),
  • Research capabilities,
  • Knowledge of English and Ukrainian languages and the ability to operate in an international environment and cooperate with international students,
  • The applicant may also come from an international environment (applications may be submitted in English).

Required documentation for the selection procedure:

  • Application form – a written request to participate in the selection procedure including consent to the processing of personal data in accordance with Act No. 18/2018 Coll. on the Protection of Personal Data and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, as amended. The application must include personal data – name, surname, address, contact details (email, phone), and the exact title of the job position applied for.
  • Structured CV (containing name and surname only, without personal data and photograph),
  • Officially certified copies of documents proving second- and third-level higher education,
  • Extract from the criminal record not older than 3 months,
  • Written teaching concept,
  • Brief portfolio of artistic and/or scientific work,
  • Overview of teaching activities (length of teaching practice, names of courses taught, etc.),
  • Overview of artistic, professional, and publication activities (where possible documented by extracts from CREUČ and CREPČ),
  • Overview of artistic-scientific professional and publication activities (where possible documented by extracts from CREUČ and CREPČ),
  • Affidavit on other employment relationships with higher education institutions based or operating in the Slovak Republic as well as abroad, concluded for the performance of work as a university teacher and researcher, including information on weekly working hours (for the purpose of demonstrating compliance with Section 74(5) of the Higher Education Act),
  • All documents must be submitted in both printed and electronic form (on a USB drive),
  • Internal employees are not required to submit officially certified copies of education documents; a simple copy is sufficient,
  • In the case of education documents obtained abroad, an official translation into Slovak is required.

Salary conditions:

  • In accordance with applicable legal regulations, Act No. 553/2003 Coll. on the remuneration of employees performing work in the public interest, i.e. according to the specific salary scale for university teachers.

Job description:

  • Expected job duties in accordance with Section 75 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions, as amended.
