Annotation:
It is very difficult to perceive David Böhm's work in isolation. Working in an artistic duo with Jiří Franta, with whom David Böhm has collaborated since his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, is undoubtedly the core or at least the starting point of the vast majority of his works, and at the same time a certain explanation for the associative and openness of his work, of which drawing is the central point.
Currently, David Böhm's solo work is mainly associated with illustration or comics. However, this is not simply a matter of illustrating a text, but an associative process that, together with the text, shapes the content of the book – text and drawing occupy an equal position here and test the limits and possibilities offered by drawing and its expressive value. As in the author's other individual works, the link between image and text is at stake here. However, even here the author does not leave the field of visual art. The vast majority of the publications that David Böhm has been involved with in recent years and for which he has received numerous awards ( https://artlist.cz/umelci/david-bohm/ ).
Jiří Franta and David Böhm organize performances, shoot videos, build spatial installations, intervene in public space, create murals and are authors of book and magazine illustrations. The results of their work can resemble a cartoon diary, graffiti, cartoon, comic, conceptual art, grotesque, sports performance, collaborative art, physical experiments, improvised choreography or theatrical performance. Important to them are processuality, the temporal principle, overcoming pitfalls, blending media, experimentation, following and transgressing rules, creative dialogue, irony, seriousness, playfulness, and perpetual incompleteness. In other words, Jiří Franta and David Böhm don't draw, they draw. They have been collaborating since 2006.
