Film: AFAD and the World
We present to you another episode from the film series created on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of our school, in collaboration with director Soňa Maletz. Through these short films, we aim to show not only the inner workings of AFAD but also the themes that engage us within student projects, artistic and scientific research, as well as the values we strive to uphold at our school. This episode is dedicated to the people and projects that connect our academy with the international scene and foreign partners.
Although the title might suggest otherwise, this episode of our film series does not focus solely on our international relations and partnerships. Through the voices of our students and teaching staff, we reflect on how the world enters our school, why we believe it is important to establish and maintain these connections, and how stepping beyond the borders of our country and our comfort zone can move us forward as artists and authors.
„A school develops when it encounters other environments, when it can admit that we are not ideal, but in process – and that we can learn something.“
– Ksenia Rozhak-Lytvynenko
„Contact with the international environment is, to a certain extent, also an encounter with otherness – and at the same time, with sameness. We may find things that divide us, yet we also discover what we share.“
– Martin Piaček
„When I entered foreign spaces, it reminded me to reflect not only on how things work elsewhere, but also on what is happening at home – to recontextualize what we should be addressing in art.“
– Jakub Surma
„To step away from one’s familiar environment, to be self-reliant, to build social ties on your own, to think independently without the support system – that is incredibly important, and I believe everyone should experience it.“
– Naďa Kančevová
