Podcast: VŠVU and 17 November (Jana Hojstričová and Ján Skaličan)
We are publishing the second episode of our podcast series, which we have prepared in collaboration with host Zuzana Golianová to commemorate historical events as well as the legacy of 17 November in contemporary Slovakia.
This episode is dedicated to the events connected to the teachers’ strike of primary and secondary schools, which in 2016 was joined also by universities. Zuzana Golianová speaks with VŠVU pedagogue Jana Hojstričová and alumnus Ján Skaličan, who at the time took part in the strike activities at VŠVU.
Among other things, they talk about students’ self-organization, solidarity, and striking within the field of education, as well as various creative activities and forms of protest that took place at VŠVU on this occasion.
Through several episodes, we look at our school and the people who worked or studied here during periods when revolutions, protests, or strikes were taking place in our country, or when undemocratic forces and narratives were coming to the forefront. In doing so, we aim to commemorate and document different forms of civic resistance and solidarity, viewed across generations, also in relation to the current situation in Slovakia.
You can find the podcast on Podbean or on streaming platforms.

* The podcast recording took place in mid-October 2025, before the events associated with the so-called “Chalk Revolution”.
