Podcast: AFAD and 17 November (Štefan Klein and Soňa Sadilková)
We present to you a new AFAD podcast series, created in collaboration with host Zuzana Golianová on the occasion of commemorating the historical events — and the contemporary legacy — of 17 November in Slovakia.
Across several episodes, we take a look at our school and the people who worked or studied here during periods when the country was experiencing revolution, protests, or strikes, or when undemocratic forces and narratives were coming to the forefront. Through the perspectives of different generations, we aim to remember and document various forms of civic resistance and solidarity, also in relation to the current situation in Slovakia.
The first episode is dedicated to the events during and after November 1989.
Zuzana Golianová speaks with our colleagues Soňa Sadilková and Štefan Klein, who were students at AFAD at the time.
Listen to their reflections on how students back then were able to organise themselves, why they were not afraid, and how the subsequent transformation of the academy unfolded — a transformation that, after the Velvet Revolution, replaced most of the school’s teaching staff.
