Obituary
Ľubomír Longauer
With deep sorrow, we announce that at the age of 77, graphic designer, educator, and a prominent figure of our school, Professor Ľubomír Longauer, has passed away.
Prof. Longauer was one of the founding figures of graphic design in Slovakia. At the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (VŠVU), he established the Department of Graphic Design (now the Department of Visual Communication), served as Vice-Rector, and educated generations of successful graphic designers.
He was the author of several books on Slovak graphic design and 20th-century visual culture (including Martin Benka, Undressing Folk Costume, The Modernity of Tradition). He played a key role in founding the Slovak Design Museum, to which he donated his extensive collection of applied graphics, and served as its unofficial curator.
As an active participant in the events of November 1989, he was among those whose voice and courage contributed to fundamental social change.
Prof. Longauer held numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Slovakia and abroad and received several national and international awards.
We have lost an exceptional educator, creator, and personality who will forever remain a part of the history of VŠVU and Slovak visual culture.
