Annotation
The project Carnivores is examining the archetype of the hunter, the associations of being a carnivore, and the issues of inclusion and intolerance. The visceral and philosophical state of being a predator, is permeated by the moral dilemma of aggression, and the urge of sustaining needs of mortality, also alliterating with socio-economic systems and behaviour patterns as well. The collaboration between artists Zsófia Antalka, Eszter Metzing and Andrea Szilák presents in their joint exhibition installations and spatial works including a range of diverse materials, made coherent by their common denominator in organic thinking and construction.
Zsófia Antalka (1994) lives and works in Budapest, Hungary. She graduated from the painting department of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2022. Following her studies, she worked as an assistant at the studio of Zsófia Keresztes (b. 1985). Antalka's work has been exhibited at acb Gallery, Budapest; and ISBN Gallery, Budapest; among others.
Eszter Metzing (1992) graduated from the graphic art program at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2018. Her practice centers on phenomena related to sensation and memory, exploring both individual and social-psychological aspects of female experience. Her work is characterized by a sensual use of materials, often incorporating bold combinations such as latex, borosilicate, and glass, as well as textile installations. Since 2022, she has been a member of the Young Artists’ Association and the Association of Hungarian Graphic Artists. Represented by Inda Gallery in Budapest since 2021, she has held two significant solo exhibitions there, in 2021 and 2024. She regularly participates in group exhibitions in Hungary and made her debut at ISBN Gallery in 2021 as an artist duo with Stella Koleszár (aka lutum). In 2025, she will be a resident artist at both the Styrian Artist in Residence in Graz and the Artist in Residence Programme in Salzburg. She is also a member of Art Quarter Budapest (aqb), a contemporary art center and artist community.
