Eryk Salvaggio: The Hypothetical Image. Reading the Artifacts of Generative AI
Events of Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava.
HN 135, AFAD Hviezdoslavovo sq. 18, Bratislava
In an artist talk that unravels the mysteries of generative artificial intelligence, the artist, author and researcher Eryk Salvaggio (Cybernetic Forests) discusses his practice. How might we "read" the media produced by generative artificial intelligence? What is the "black box" of AI, and what are the decisions designers intentionally obscure? Salvaggio suggests we engage the images, sounds and texts produced by AI as data visualisations that prioritize plausibility rather than creative expression. In a presentation blending artistic research into images, video, and sound, Salvaggio positions himself as a critical AI-artist, and will examine the ways artists can hijack the "spectacle" of AI to engage more intentionally with algorithmic politics -- and the risks of AI ordering the world on our behalf.
The lecture is part of the KEGA 001VŠVU-4/2025 grant The Art of Synthesis: Bridging Creativity and Technology Through AI and is part of the E-R-AI platform program.
