Space between experience and representation
The exhibition presents hand-enlarged large-format black and white photographs created using the classic process in the darkroom of the Department of Photography and New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava.
House of Music, Panenská 11, Bratislava
Exhibition duration: one-day exhibition, accessible during the event The creative power of every woman shapes the face of our city BKIS from 14:00 to 21:00
The project moves in the tension between experience and its pictorial trace – between experiencing and depicting.
The authorship consciously avoids the dramatic climax. It focuses on everyday, often invisible moments that exist more as a silent continuity than as an event. Photography here does not function as proof of exceptionality, but as a medium of attention – as a way to remain present.
The black and white tonality arising from the chemical process emphasizes the materiality of the image and its temporality. Each enlargement is a unique record of light, gestures and decisions that cannot be repeated. In the context of an oversaturated digital environment, the exhibition offers a slowdown – a return to the image as a physical object and to the gaze as a conscious act. Photography here becomes a space of concentration in which an ordinary moment acquires its own intensity.
The presented photographs were created under the guidance of Jana Ilková as part of the course Technology of Analog Image Processing.
The opening of the exhibition will be presented by Olja Triaška Stefanović, head of the department and associate professor of the studio of photography and critical practice, together with assistant professor Ema Gejdoš Lančaričová.
The exhibition of students of the Department of Photography and New Media from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava was created in cooperation with the Bratislava Cultural and Information Center BKIS.
