Jewelry and the Figure

Studio Metal and Jewelry invites to an exhibition

Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague – Historical Building
17. listopadu Street 2, 110 00 Prague 1

Curator: Petja Matějovič
Architect: David Bazika

The exhibition will present both historical and contemporary jewelry from the UPM collections alongside counterparts from foreign and domestic institutions, as well as works owned by their creators, wearers, and private collectors. Using examples of jewelry featuring the human figure, its parts, remains, or attributes, the exhibition will demonstrate the ability of wearable objects to convey messages. The role of the wearer, who often participates in the depicted scenes, provides scale, and determines their orientation, will also be highlighted. The exhibition will emphasize the intersection of ancient and biblical themes, as well as the blending of jewelry compositions passed down for centuries from the miniature art of glyptics, monumental sculpture, and wall painting.
