Bratislava Design Week
Bratislava will once again become the center of contemporary design! Slovakia’s international design festival, Bratislava Design Week 2025. This year, we’re celebrating the 16th edition of the festival, and for the first time, the festival headquarters will be located in the premises of Svoradov Dormitory.
The festival will take place in the dormitory premises on Svoradova Street, which, under new management, is opening up to the city and undergoing its own transformation. It is here that the festival develops this year’s theme of transformations – of space, the art scene, and of the very thinking about design.
Main theme of the festival: TRANSFORMATION
The main guest of Bratislava Design Week is the experimental collective Cinema Parentesi (IT). The central curatorial project Grand Hotel Bratislava Design Week contextualizes the hotel as a transformative structure and explores its new scenographies through contemporary Slovak designers. The program includes a special edition of Pecha Kucha Night, and the Open Call section will feature more than 80 designers, students, and design schools. “We want to show how design responds to the pressing social challenges – we are experiencing a major societal shift with a crisis of values, climate change, the rise of AI, attacks on the cultural sphere, identity crisis, and the collapse of democracy. But we don’t want to be only dark; we want to show that creativity is free and alive, and that despite the circumstances, many interesting outputs and works are being created. The joy of creation and of coming together may be what helps us and moves us forward right now,” says the festival director Ľubica Hustá.
