Studio of Free Sculpture
The studio was created and shaped by Štefan Papčo; it is currently led by Matej Gavula.
Bachelor's Degree Level
It begins where the preparatory stage ends. The acquired skills and energy must be reflected in the search for and formulation of a personal theme—one that can be expressed through the medium of sculpture. This requires an understanding of material, mass, craft, space, and context; an understanding of oneself and the algorithms of both individual and collective intuition.
Studio work is a process contributed to by everyone—students and mentors alike. It demands structure and consistency.
Exploration and intuition, critical thinking and focus lead to reduction or addition, recycling and construction, emergence.
Stories incorporate both living and non-living nature, architecture, and space that is public and open.
Master's Degree Level
This is an opportunity to reflect on the processes and activities of previous semesters and gradually adapt to the professional art world that follows after graduation.
The studio environment becomes a workshop, a platform, a stage, an agora. The student is both actor and protagonist, materializing their vision through work and articulating it through thought.
They align their own output with the world of sculpture/contemporary art and its metabolism, into which they integrate their strategies, emotions, and inner freedom.
