Hello. My name is Jelena Branković and I am an Erasmus student on a summer term at AFAD Bratislava, Slovakia. I am from Belgrade, Serbia. I study MA scenography at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade. I have been studying SOHA at AFAD during the summer term 2017, its similar department.
On 23th of February I came to Bratislava. I was very excited, because this is my first Erasmus experience. I did not know anyone except my friend Nataša, who came with me from Belgrade. Soon I met many new friends from different parts of the world. They are my Erasmus friends, who passed with me the same experience. I’ve met many different cultures during these studies.
In the first days I met the city with my Erasmus friends from dormitory. We were often together. At first sight I loved Bratislava because it is small and majestic.
When I arrived at the university I met my colleagues and professor Ján Hoffstädter who supported me from the first day. We visited a few exhibitions together. I was also introduced to my groupmates Sebastian and Jozef.
They showed me the school, workshops and galleries in the downtown. I liked everything at the workshops. The school was perfect. The workshops are big and fantastic because we don't have it at university in Belgrade. There are many quality machines available for work. I was very interested in studying from the first day.
Many thanks to my professor Jan and his assistant Mira. Jan was always smiling and joking and supported the students all the time. He could easy find a word for each student that always motivated us to work. He told me many interesting things about art in Slovak language, but I understood everything because he has power to show me and give knowledge. For me he is the best professor at AFAD. I didn't find the perfect connection with professors from ceramic department. And also I didn't present my project in the end, because ceramic was my second subject, but I wanted to present my work.
SOCHA department is the best for me, because everybody always helped each other. And the best thing that the students here always work with different materials.
Finally we presented our works at AFAD exhibition, and all of us were a little nervous. But for me it was a very good chance to show my work and to say some words about my ideas and project.
In conclusion, I want to say that the time I spent here was the most amazing in my life. During these long months learned to be responsible for myself. I was traveling and met many different people and cities like Vienna, Prague, Brno, Trieste. I met a lot of Slovak people who showed me Bratislava from different sides.
And I want to say many thanks to the International department of AFAD for your patience, constant work with each of us and for farewell Erasmus party and presents.
I am really greatly impressed by this time. I had the best experience in my life, and now I have new life lessons. I will be happy to return to Bratislava after this mobillity.
Thanks for everything you did for me.
