My student mobility started on February 10th on arrival to the airport Vnukovo in Moscow and finished in July 9th 2017. Five months I was studying at the Department of Monumental Decorative Painting in the Stroganov State University of Arts and Industry.
One of the reasons for my application about this education was a desire discover the phenomenon of the academic educational system in Russian universities. It was interesting for me to follow classical techniques of the process of building oil painting and also the artistry of old famous painters. Riveting attention for realistic transmission of the three-dimensional picture to two dimensional on canvas, perspective, modelling with light and shadow. Realised to the surface of focused subject or human with using drawing and painting.
The level of academical drawing is high there, the exceeding pride of Stroganov, which is teaching quite in different rules like in academical painting on canvas. Here is necessary to follow rules that are important for monumental wall painting. Bring- down was coming on lessons of painting, that hasn't brought me that, why I wanted to come to Moscow. On the other hand, it helped me to change eye view about the understanding of painting. One of the best experiences was the opportunity to try the new monumental technique, the mosaic. I haven't worked with porcelain enamel (smalta) before. It required a lot of energy and stamina to learn to cut the stone correctly, also to choose proper pieces of stones in order than the result of it looks harmonic. In contrast to the subject mosaic, it was compulsory for me to attend the lessons of Composition. It was like a fundamental for every student of this department. Inserting, decorating, assembling of pictures for creating a new composition by the artist, with communicating as with space of a building where it will be inserted. Not only thinking about form but also join the mind around the use of materials, technique, which is the best fit.
According to me the access to teaching methodology is conservative, what is felt especially in the field of fine art. However, I can't complain about my relationship with the professors. It was nice. I had more freedom than other students, who are obligated to listen to them.
If you will decide to travel to Russia with knowledge of English, please take with you also a Russian dictionary just in case ☺ After spending a few weeks there I have fallen in love with the Russian language in so far as it disappeared the need to use English. It is so wonderful feeling when it is possible to communicate with people immediately, though briefly, but we have one same language origin, which makes it possible to understand 40% without a long- standing knowledge of Russian.
Accordingly, I carry away a lot of adventures and experiences thanks for people, who were agreeable and showed me the Russian culture, they were always answering my never ending questions, showed me another attitude to look at life and especially refuted my prejudices as well as how they thought about people living in Slovakia.
After four months of studying, there was the last free month, when is the right time to have a trip, get to know the country better or travel to another town than Moscow. Russia is so huge, that the more you are leaving the capital the better you are meeting with differences in culture, thinking and characters of people. It also difficult to get to know all the areas of Moscow, seeing that it is the biggest city in Europe. For that reason its effective to use offline maps and I encourage asking strangers the way.
Thanks to this program I could know Moscow, the city so similar to European cities, especially the cities full of people, who are proud of their history, culture and love literature...
