Selection procedure for the position of university teacher Architecture

The Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, with its registered office at Hviezdoslavovo nám. 18, in Bratislava, in accordance with Section 77, paragraph 1 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions and on the Amendment and Supplementation of Certain Acts, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the "Act on Higher Education Institutions"), announces a selection procedure for filling the positions of university teachers in the functional position of associate professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava as follows:

Department of Architecture

  • University teacher in the position of Associate Professor for leading and teaching the core course "Preparatory Course of Architecture" in the study programme Architecture, within the field of study Art, assigned to the Department of Architecture.

Expected start date: September 2025

Required qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Completion of the second level of higher education with the awarding of the artistic-pedagogical title or the academic title “docent” before 01.09.2020; or
  • Completion of the third level of higher education with the awarding of the artistic-pedagogical or academic title “docent”; or
  • Completion of the third level of higher education without the title “docent”. The applicant must demonstrate compliance with the criteria required for obtaining the title “docent” at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (VŠVU) in the relevant field, as specified in the Annex No. 1.

Other qualification requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience (including doctoral studies),
  • English language proficiency at B2 level (upper-intermediate),
  • Publication activity,
  • Clean criminal record,
  • Participation in the selection procedure,
  • Successful completion of the selection procedure.

Required documents for the selection procedure:

  • Application – written request to participate in the selection procedure, including consent to the processing of personal data in accordance with Act No. 18/2018 Coll. on the protection of personal data. The application must include: personal data – name, surname, address, contact (email, phone), and the exact title of the position of interest.

  • Structured CV* (without personal data and photo),
  • Officially certified copy of the diploma of third-level higher education,
  • Officially certified copy of the decree awarding the title “docent” (if applicable),
  • Criminal record extract not older than 3 months,
  • Brief portfolio of artistic or scientific work,
  • Overview of artistic, professional, and publishing activities (ideally supported by CREUČ and CREPČ listings),
  • Overview of artistic-research and publication activities (ideally supported by CREUČ and CREPČ listings),
  • Teaching concept proposal,
  • Declaration of other employment relationships with Slovak or foreign higher education institutions (indicating weekly working hours, for the purpose of demonstrating compliance with § 74 (5) of the Higher Education Act),
  • Overview of artistic-pedagogical activities (length of teaching experience, supervision of final theses),
  • Overview of grant, project, and organisational activities (research projects, conferences, workshops, etc.),
  • Other documents as specified in the Annex No. 1 for applicants with third-level education but without the title “docent”,
  • Consent to the processing of personal data.

All documents must be submitted in printed and electronic form (on a USB key).

Internal staff are not required to provide officially certified copies of education documents; a regular copy is sufficient.

General admission requirements:

  • Meeting the specified admission criteria,
  • Complete submission of all required documents for the selection procedure,
  • Personal participation in the selection procedure.

Selection procedure:

  • Presentation of artistic, scientific and pedagogical activities (approx. 15 minutes),
  • Presentation of proposed teaching concept (approx. 15 minutes),
  • Discussion with the committee and defence of the submitted teaching concept.

Salary conditions:

Salary conditions: According to applicable legislation, Act No. 553/2003 Coll. on the remuneration of employees performing work in the public interest, i.e. according to the specific salary scale for higher education teachers.

Job description:

Expected job duties in accordance with § 75 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions as amended.

Further details regarding the selection procedure, admission requirements, and required documentation:

  1. The filling of this position follows the approved structure of positions at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (VŠVU).
  2. The selection procedure verifies the skills and professional knowledge of the candidate, necessary or suitable for the nature of the duties of the position in question.
  3. The selection procedure for the position of professor or associate professor is also the selection procedure for the corresponding teaching position.
  4. Required documents, including the application form, must be submitted in Slovak. If the education credentials and academic titles were issued abroad, they must be officially certified and translated into Slovak, except for documents in Czech, which do not require translation.

 

*The structured professional CV of the selected candidate and unsuccessful candidates will be published in accordance with § 77 sec. 7 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions and amendments within 5 working days after the selection procedure on the faculty's website for 90 days.
