Selection procedure - associate professor

Selection procedure for the position of university teacher Applied Arts

The Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, located at Hviezdoslavovo nám. 18, in Bratislava, in accordance with § 77 para. 1 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the "Higher Education Act"), announces a selection procedure for filling the positions of university teachers at the rank of associate professor at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava as follows:

Department of Applied Arts

  • University teacher in the position of associate professor for the teaching of the mandatory course Preparatory Course in Jewelry and for teaching practical and theoretical subjects in the field of authorial artistic jewelry in the study program Applied Arts in the field of Arts at the bachelor’s level and in the study program Visual Arts in the field of Arts at the master’s level, based at the Department of Applied Arts.

Qualification Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • Completion of university education at the second level with the award of the art-pedagogical title or scientific-pedagogical title “associate professor” before 01.09.2020 or,
  • Completion of university education at the third level with the award of the art-pedagogical title or scientific-pedagogical title “associate professor” or,
  • Completion of university education at the third level, without the award of the art-pedagogical or scientific-pedagogical title “associate professor.” The applicant must demonstrate compliance with the criteria resulting from the required level of criteria for obtaining the title of associate professor at the university in the relevant field, linked to the study field in which the position is assigned, which in the university's conditions means that they must meet the Qualification criteria for habilitation procedures (Appendix No. 1).

 

Additional Qualification Requirements

  • Art-pedagogical practice lasting at least 3 years (including doctoral studies),
  • Knowledge of a foreign language – English, level: B2 (intermediate).

Required Documentation for the Selection Procedure:

  • Application – written request for participation in the selection procedure, stating consent for the processing of personal data in accordance with Act No. 18/2018 on the Protection of Personal Data and Amendments to Certain Acts. The application must include personal data – name, surname, address, contact details – email, phone, and the exact title of the position the candidate is applying for.

  • Structured Curriculum Vitae* (including name and surname without personal data and photograph),
  • Officially verified copy of the document on university education at the third level,
  • Officially verified copy of the decree granting the applicant the art-pedagogical title “associate professor,” if the applicant has obtained this title,
  • Criminal record not older than 3 months,
  • Brief portfolio of artistic or scientific activity,
  • Overview of artistic, professional, and publication activity (if possible, confirmed by CREUČ and CREPČ records),
  • Overview of art-scientific professional and publication activity (if possible, confirmed by CREUČ and CREPČ records),
  • Prepared concept of teaching specialized technological subjects and theoretical subjects for the 1st and 2nd years of the bachelor’s program and the 1st year of the master’s program – in both print and electronic format.
  • Honest declaration regarding other work relations with universities with headquarters, or operating in the territory of the Slovak Republic, as well as abroad, concluded for the performance of work of university teachers and researchers, indicating data about weekly working hours (for the purposes of proving the actual situation under § 74 para. 5 of the Higher Education Act),
  • Overview of art-pedagogical activity (length of pedagogical practice, supervision of final works),
  • Overview of the applicant’s grant, project, and organizational activities (research projects, conferences, workshops, etc.),
  • Additional documents in accordance with the Rules for the Selection Procedure and the published announcement on the selection procedure (Appendix No. 1), for applicants with third-level education and without the art-pedagogical title “associate professor.”
  • Consent to the processing of personal data.

All documents must be submitted in both printed and electronic form (on USB stick).

In the case of internal employees, it is not necessary to submit officially verified documents of education, a copy of the education document is sufficient.

General Admission Conditions:

  • Compliance with the required admission conditions,
  • Complete submission of the required documentation for the selection procedure,
  • Personal participation in the selection procedure.

Course of the Selection Procedure:

  • Presentation of artistic, or scientific and pedagogical activity (approx. 15 min.),
  • Presentation of the proposed teaching concept (approx. 15 min.),
  • Discussion with the members of the committee and defense of the proposed teaching concept.

Salary Conditions:

According to the applicable legal regulations of Act No. 553/2003 on the remuneration of employees in public interest work, i.e., according to the special scale of salary tariffs for university teachers.

Employment Conditions:

Expected employment terms in accordance with § 75 of Act No. 131/2002 on Higher Education Institutions, as amended.

Further details on the announced selection procedure, admission conditions, and required documentation for the selection procedure:

  1. The filling of the mentioned position and function is carried out in connection with the approval of the number and structure of positions at VŠVU.
  2. The selection procedure verifies the abilities and professional knowledge of the applicant, which are necessary or appropriate regarding the nature of the duties to be performed by the employee in the position or function for which the selection procedure is announced.
  3. The selection procedure for the position of professor and associate professor is simultaneously a selection procedure for filling a position of university teacher.
  4. The required documentation for the selection procedure, including the application for the selection procedure, must be submitted in Slovak. If the documents proving the achieved education, academic, artistic, and scientific titles, and artistic and scientific ranks are issued in a state other than the Slovak Republic, they must be officially verified in the prescribed manner, and officially translated into Slovak. Official translation into Slovak is not required for documents issued in Czech.

 

*The structured professional curriculum vitae of the selected applicant and unsuccessful applicants will be published in accordance with § 77 para. 7 of Act No. 131/2002 on Higher Education and Amendments to Some Laws, within 5 working days after the selection procedure, on the faculty's website for a period of 90 days.
