Selection procedure for the position of university teacher Theory and History of Art Painting

The Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, located at Hviezdoslavovo nám. 18, Bratislava, in accordance with § 77(1) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the "Higher Education Act"), announces a selection procedure for filling the positions of higher education teachers in the functional position of Assistant Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, as follows:

Department of Theory and History of Art

  • University teacher in the position of assistant professor for the teaching of specialized subjects focused on the history and theory of applied art and design, as well as the history of art of the 20th and 21st centuries, in study programs in the field of Art at the bachelor's degree level, in study programs in the field of Art at the master's degree level, and in the study program History and Practice of Contemporary Art in the field of Arts and Culture at the master's degree level, with placement at the Department of Theory and History of Art.
  • University teacher in the position of assistant professor for the teaching of theoretical subjects focused on the history of philosophy, the theory of visual arts, aesthetics, and the theory and philosophy of art in study programs in the field of Art at the bachelor's degree level, in study programs in the field of Art at the master's degree level, and in the study program History and Practice of Contemporary Art in the field of Arts and Culture at the master's degree level, with placement at the Department of Theory and History of Art.
  • University teacher in the position of assistant professor for the teaching of theoretical subjects focused on the history and theory of visual art, the history and theory of modern and contemporary art, in study programs in the field of Art at the bachelor's degree level, in study programs in the field of Art at the master's degree level, and in the study program History and Practice of Contemporary Art in the field of Arts and Culture at the master's degree level, with placement at the Department of Theory and History of Art.

Department of Painting

University teacher in the position of assistant professor for the teaching of the mandatory subject Painting Studio Delta and for the teaching of specialized subjects focused on painting technologies and techniques, as well as specialized subjects focused on theory, history, and the reflection of issues related to the medium of painting in the contexts of visual art in the study program Painting in the field of Art at the bachelor's degree level, and in the study program Visual Arts in the field of Art at the master's degree level, with placement at the Department of Painting.

Deadline for submitting applications: 24.04.2025

Start date: September 2025

Qualification Requirements

  • Higher education degree of the third level in the relevant study field,
  • Pedagogical practice of at least 3 years (including doctoral studies)
  • Submission of a written concept for teaching.

Required Documentation for the Selection Procedure:

  • Application – written request for participation in the selection procedure with the consent for processing personal data in accordance with Act No. 18/2018 on the protection of personal data and amending some laws, as amended. The application must include: personal data – name, surname, address, contact – email, phone, and the exact name of the job position the candidate is applying for.

  • Structured Curriculum Vitae* (containing name and surname WITHOUT personal data and photo),
  • Officially verified copy of the diploma certifying higher education for the second and third levels,
  • Criminal record extract no older than 3 months,
  • Written teaching concept,
  • Brief portfolio of artistic or scientific activity,
  • Overview of pedagogical activities (length of teaching practice, titles of taught subjects, etc.),
  • Overview of artistic, professional, and public activities (if available, supported by extracts from CREUČ and CREPČ),
  • Overview of artistic-scientific professional and public activities (if available, supported by extracts from CREUČ and CREPČ),
  • Declaration of other employment with universities based in or operating in Slovakia or abroad, concluded for the performance of work as a university teacher or researcher, including the weekly working time (for purposes of demonstrating the facts according to §74 para. 5 of the Higher Education Act).

All documents must be submitted both in printed and electronic form (on USB drive).

In the case of internal employees, notarized documents of education are not required, a copy of the diploma will suffice.

 

Salary Conditions:

According to the valid legal regulations of Act No. 553/2003 on the remuneration of employees performing work in public interest, i.e., according to the special salary tariff scale for university teachers.

Job Description:

Expected job description in accordance with § 75 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions as amended.

Further details about the selection procedure, conditions of admission, and required documentation for the selection procedure:

  • The filling of the position and the function mentioned is carried out based on the approval of the number and structure of job positions at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design.
  • The selection procedure assesses the abilities and professional knowledge of the applicant, which are necessary or suitable considering the nature of the duties the employee will perform in the position or function they are applying for.
  • The required documentation for the selection procedure, including the application, must be submitted in Slovak. If the documents verifying the achieved education, academic, artistic, and scientific titles, and professional ranks are issued in a language other than Slovak, they must be officially verified and translated into Slovak. For documents issued in Czech, official translation into Slovak is not required.

 

*Structured professional curriculum vitae of the selected candidates and unsuccessful candidates will be published in accordance with § 77 para. 7 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions and amendments within 5 working days from the selection procedure on the faculty's website for a period of 90 days.
