Preparatory Course in Textile II
The preparatory textile course is focused on acquiring basic information about textile design and garment creation.
The student addresses issues and specifics of textile pattern design and processing in assignments—tackling questions of motif proportions and pattern creation for various textile substrates and applications (apparel textiles/home textiles/functional textile applications). They become familiar with both functional and aesthetic specifics of home and apparel patterns, the construction of pattern repeats, as well as the technological possibilities and limitations of manual, small-scale, and industrial production. The student practically goes through the individual steps of collection creation—from inspiration, moodboard, and sketches to identifying the target customer/user group and determining the character and function of the final product, through motif selection and creating a family of elements for the pattern design—size and compositional variations (from placement print scale to structural compositions), color palette development (monochrome, duplex, and multicolor or full-color patterns). Material and technological testing for realization, prototype development, and selected design implementation are followed by the final assembly of the collection, presentation adjustments, product visualization in space, and in specific functional applications.
