Studio of Intermedia

In the Studio of Intermedia, we take into consideration the individuality of each student and we focus on their self-development. Students are guided during their studies to critical thinking, open communication and process of work on their own art projects, with an emphasis on the creative process.

The topics of the semester works are chosen by the students themselves. Semester outputs in the studio consist of work with intermediate overlaps, from video, sound, photography, performance, text, happenings, spatial installation, interactivity, interventions in space, through multimedia, to classical art expressive forms such as painting, drawing and object. We understand the Studio of Intermedia as an open space for sharing ideas, opinions and experiences. It is built on regular meetings of students and teachers who consult their work together, cook together, attend lectures, exhibitions, theatre performances, go together on trips and workshops.

How do we work together?

In the studio, we especially try to support open and respectful communication.

At the same time, through the Open Curriculum questionnaire, we create a space for students to name their own interests and topics, that they would like to develop further in their own artistic practice. During the semester, we motivate each other to actively participate in the art scene, to formulate our own starting points and to expand our academic knowledge. Teachers and students of all grades learn from each other, they develop and pass on experience, skills and knowledge. We perceive mistakes as a natural part of the creative process. We decide on the program together on the basis of the principles of direct democracy. Students suggest activities, trips, workshops, selection of guests from the arts and humanities environment, in the dialogue we decide together on the use of studio finances, adaptation of premises and etc.

How does the semester go?

We start the semester by filling in the Open Curriculum questionnaire, where each and everyone sets their own idea of the topic and formal aspects of their project. The primary task of the questionnaire is to formulate starting points that may change during the semester. Students individually define what they want to study from academic literature, or fiction, poetry and with whom from the external environment they would like to consult. They determine what type of knowledge they would like to study to their project, or what workshops and lectures they would like to attend. For students, this supports concentration on the process of creating the artwork, consistent deepening into the issue and the development of soft skills. During their studies, students will acquire skills with several media (photography, camera, editing, sound, material, interactivity, text, performance). Continuously acquiring knowledge and skills, they also focus their attention on the formal output of the artwork and the development of their own visual vocabulary, which are individually derived from the process. At the end of the semester, students fill in the last columns of the Open Curriculum, where they formulate their self-evaluation of the process of work during the semester and feedback to the guidance of the studio as well as studio overall functioning. At the same time, the feedback for the students is also formulated by the teachers. Before the final evaluation, we exchange self-evaluation and feedback, which could be further developed in the discussion.
