Requirements for portfolio

  • realistic studies of portrait, figures, coloured still lives, copies, sketches, compositions; photos of modelled realizations,
  • recommended number of works: 30
  • motivation letter

How to submit works:

  • After submitting the electronic application with annexes, the applicant uploads the digital version of his/her portfolio, together with the motivation letter, in the period between December 7, 2021 (from 12 a.m.) and December 10, 2021 (to 8 a.m.) via: https://ulozisko.vsvu.sk/;  access details and instructions will be sent no later than December 7, 2021 (to 12 a.m.) to email addresses stated in the application.
  • The digital portfolio and motivation letter must be included in one joint PDF format (maximum up to 10 MB) titled name_surname_study programme restoration. It is necessary to mark individual works.
  • The applicant brings the original versions of his/her portfolio of works directly to the second round of the admissions procedure in the maximum size of A1; all works must be inserted in one art portfolio folder or case.

Further details of individual assignments during the admissions procedure:

First round

  • by the distance method, without the applicant’s physical presence
  • the evaluation of the digital portfolio and motivation letter

Second round

  • in person, with the participation of the applicant who passes to the second round from the first round. The second round of the admissions procedure lasts for two days.
  • Drawing of a head or bust on an A2 format in the ratio 1:1. – emphasis on the construction, proportions, modelling – media: charcoal, pencil, ruddle or other drawing media
  • Modelling – completion of a missing part of the plaster cast. Emphasis on the proportion and fine art creativity.
  • Still life – painting from a model on an A2 format in ratio 1:1. – emphasis on the composition, colour and light in the still life – media: watercolour, gouache, tempera, acrylic...
  • Interpretation of a specific work by one of the masters from the history of fine art. Emphasis on tonality, light, proportion, composition.  Painting and drawing techniques (based on a given model)
  • test focused on measuring the general secondary-school knowledge of history, literature, fine art history and the knowledge of contemporary art. If requested, it is possible for the applicants from abroad to take the test in English language. However, if they are admitted to study at AFAD, the studies continue in Slovak language.
  • The applicant showcases his/her knowledge of the field in the interview before the admissions committee, the interview also includes a discussion about his/her portfolio).

Tools required for entrance examination

The applicants are required to bring their drawing media according to their own preferences (pastel, pencil, ruddle, charcoal sticks), + painting media (tempera, aquarelle, pastel – following one´s own preferences), container for water, brushes, adhesive tapes, modelling tools, drawing board, (in case an applicant travels and cannot bring his/her own A2 drawing board AFAD can provide it)
