Home assignments, further details of individual tasks, necessary tools

If you want to apply to any of the specialties, the training in the given field or specialized practice before studies are not necessary. Our study specialties are open to the applicants’ ambitions.

Requirements for home assignments – portfolio

Drawing

  • classic, academic assignments, still lifes, portrait, details of human body, drawings of nature, natural specimens and so on...
  • drawing of a portrait from life – 5 pieces
  • still lifes – 3 pieces
  • landscape, natural specimen... – 3 pieces
  • drawings of a hand, body parts... – 3 pieces
  • colourful drawing studies from life, the applicant can choose the technique – 2 pieces
  • colourful drawing studies of a still life, the applicant can choose the technique – 2 pieces

Modelling

  • If the applicant has the opportunity of this creative training, he/she submits the photo documentation of this activity: modelled portrait from life or bust or other.

Home and school assignments:

  • Home and school assignments according to the applicant’s choice are part of his/her portfolio: drawings, paintings, photographs and models, different school and home assignments, personal projects, designs of objects, small or big ones, in the fields the applicant has applied to, in other words, designs related to the following specialties – ceramics or glass or jewel.

Obligatory assignment

The applicant individually works on the topic related to the specialty he/she has applied to.

  • CERAMICS
    Work on a design for: A COFFEE CUP AT A SPACE STATION.  
    The applicant works on a research for the assignment, drawing designs, electronic visuals if the applicant works with this medium, photographs of a paper model or a final work and other, according to personal preferences.
  • GLASS
    Work on a design for: A GLASS CONTAINER AT A SPACE STATION.
    The applicant works on a research for the assignment, drawing designs, electronic visuals if the applicant works with this medium, photographs of a paper model or a final work and other, according to personal preferences.
  • JEWEL
    Work on a design for:  A JEWEL FOR A SPACE PILOT.
    The applicant works on a research for the assignment, drawing designs, electronic visuals if the applicant works with this medium, photographs of a paper model or a final work and other, according to personal preferences.

Form of the submission of works:

  • After submitting the electronic application with annexes, the applicant uploads the digital version of his/her home assignments, his/her portfolio, together with the motivation letter, between January 19, 2021 (6 AM) and January 25, 2021 (8 AM) via: https://obhajoby.vsvu.sk; access details and instructions will be sent on January 18, 2021 by e-mail to the addresses specified in the application.
  • The digital portfolio, home assignments and motivation letter must be included in one joint PDF format (maximum up to 10 MB) titled name_surname_study programme of applied arts. It is necessary to mark the individual works – topic, title.
  • The applicant brings the original versions of his/her home assignments – his/her portfolio directly to the 2nd round of the admission procedure, including the obligatory assignment completed in accordance with the instructions.

1st round

  • by the distance method, without the applicant’s physical presence
  • the evaluation of home assignments and the obligatory assignment

2nd round

  • in person, with the participation of the applicant who advances to the 2nd round from the 1st round. The 2nd round of the admission procedure lasts two days.

  • relief – object – creation on a given topic
  • painting – structure, texture on a given topic
  • ceramic object

Further details of creative assignments – Glass

  • Previous experience with working with glass is not a condition for the admission to study the specialty of Glass.
  • The applicants will be given four topics (assignments), ranging from applied artworks to creative artworks, which will examine the applicant’s artistic thinking and skills.

  • creation on given topics—related to dimensions S+M+L_XL—which form the essence of the study of the given specialty.

Tools needed at the admission exam:

Ceramics

a drawing board in A2 size, pencils, charcoal sticks, red chalks, brushes, tempera and watercolour paints, poster paints, acrylic paints, spatulas for modelling, a pair of scissors, string, water containers, a drawing compass, glue, adhesive tape, rulers, a wound wire rake, a card scraper

Glass

a drawing board in A2 size, a pencil, a charcoal stick, an eraser, watercolour paints, a pair of scissors, a cutter, hard paper sheets of different colours, glue, adhesive tape, rulers, spatulas for modelling, etc.

Jewel

a drawing board in A2 size, crayons, a pair of scissors, a cutter, small pincers, pliers, fast drying universal glue, adhesive tape, rulers.
