1. Who can submit an application for additional admissions for a bachelor´s program in the study program ARCHITECTURE.

An application for additional admissions for a study program can be submitted by an applicant who did not take part in the admissions for the study program Architecture on the given date.

An applicant for a bachelor's degree at AFAD can become a student of the chosen study program only on the basis of completing the admissions process. If a student has obtained a full secondary education or a full secondary vocational education, they can enrol in the admissions at AFAD following the required process. In case the admissions take place before the date of the applicant´s school-leaving examination, the applicant is admitted to study conditionally. The final admission to study is conditioned by the successful completion of the school-leaving examination (Maturita). The applicant submits proof of completion of the complete secondary education (verified copy of the secondary school leaving certificate) within ten days after the completion of the school leaving examination, yet no later than the deadline for enrolment to study.

All foreign applicants (with the exception of the Czech ones) must have a command of the Slovak language at the B1 level before starting their studies.

Foreign applicants, who have studied abroad, are admitted, only if they provide a decision on the recognition of the certificate issued abroad no later than the deadline for the enrolment (September 2022).

If the school issues certificates after the enrolment date (after September) we do not recommend students that they submit an application, instead we recommend submitting it in the next academic year.

AFAD determines further conditions for the admission to study in order to ensure that the applicants with
necessary skills and potential are admitted. The determined conditions and the method of verification of their compliance must allow to select applicants who will show the highest level of talent, knowledge and skills to study the individual study programmes realized at AFAD.

Admissions Committee

The assigned tasks and individual parts of the admissions process are evaluated by no less than five-member admissions committee appointed the AFAD Rector from among the university teachers conducting a study programme at AFAD with an art-academic title of professor, associate professor or assistant. A university teacher teaching another study programme at AFAD can also become a member of the admissions committee.

The members of the admissions committee will evaluate the assignments in both rounds according to a point system with a six-point scale (0–5 points). Each task (including tests, a personal interview and home assignments) is evaluated individually.

In order to advance to the second round, the candidate has to obtain no less than 50% out of the maximum number of points for the tasks in the first round. According to the situation (e. g. a small number of those who advance to the second round), the committee can lower the advance limit to 45% of the obtained points. The applicants who advance to the second round of the admissions process are informed:

  • in case of the admissions procedure carried out by the distance method, the results will be published on the school’s webpage no later than 30 days from the date of the 1st round. The successful candidates also receive an invitation to the second round of the admissions process.

Whole School Admissions Committee

Admissions committees present the results of both rounds (including number of points) together with the applicants’ art works to the whole school admissions committee appointed by the AFAD Rector. The members of the whole school admissions committee are the AFAD Rector, AFAD Vice-rectors, head of the Academic Senate of AFAD, heads of the AFAD departments, heads of the AFAD studios, teachers leading preparatory courses and members of the departments’ admissions committees, while the chairman of the committee is the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs.

The whole school admissions committee assesses the results of the evaluation and order of the candidates presented by each departmental admissions committee what guarantees the correctness of the admissions process. The whole school admissions committee has the right to change the order of candidates, opposing the evaluation of the departmental admission committee, by open vote which requires a simple majority of the votes of the present members of the whole school admissions committee.

The whole school admissions committee has the right to propose to the AFAD Rector to increase or decrease the number of the admitted applicants for individual study programmes, or not to admit any of the applicants due to the low level of their performance. The final decision of the admission or non-admission of the applicant is made by the Rector of the school following the proposal of the whole school committee. The AFAD’s Study Office sends the decision to the applicant by post no later than 30 days after the end of the admissions process.

Decision of the Admission/Non-admission

The applicant, who receives the decision of the non-admission to study, can request the review of the decision. The request letter must be sent to the AFAD Rector no later than 8 days after the date of the reception of the decision. If the rector does not find any infringement, the request is forwarded to the Academic Senate of AFAD. The senate does not evaluate the quality of works but the procedural side of the proceedings. The decision of the Academic Senate of AFAD is final. The reply to the request to review the decision must be sent to the applicant no later than 30 days after the date of the reception of the request letter to review the decision of non-admission to study at AFAD.

The conditions of admissions and the course of the admissions process to bachelor´s programs are defined in detail by the Internal Regulation of the Admission Procedure at AFAD.
