The walls of the Great Armoury in Gdańsk are yet again hosting the exhibition entitled ‘Esteemed Graduates of Academies of Fine Arts’, its eighth edition already. Every year the exhibition contributes to the promotion of young talents from all parts of Poland and supports beginner artists in making their independent debut on the artistic market. It also presents an overview of contemporary artistic phenomena to the broad public.
The exhibition is of competitive nature – it is open to selected graduates of faculties of painting, graphics, sculpture and intermedia of all Polish public academies of fine arts. For the first time this year’s edition includes off-competition works by graduates of two foreign academies: the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts.
Beside the main prize, funded by the Rectors, the following accompanying prizes will be awarded: the Prize of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Prize of the Mayor of Gdansk, the Prize of the Marshall of Pomorskie Province and the prize of Andrzej Szczypiorski Fund for the Promotion of Creativity (at ZAiKS Association of Authors).
Thanks to our cooperation with Gdansk City Gallery one participant selected by the Gallery Director organizes his/her own exhibition in the following year. Distinctions, in the form of interviews are awarded by renowned artistic magazines – ‘Szum’ and ‘Contemporary Lynx’.
A debate of art critics on ‘youth in the field of art’, initiated last year, has become an accompanying event of the exhibition, and it proved to be an important critical voice shaping reflection on the creative activity of graduates of academies of fine arts.
The patrons of the exhibition include the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Andrzej Szczypiorski Fund for the Promotion of Creativity (at ZAiKS Association of Authors), Mieczysław Struk, the Marshall of Pomorskie Province, and the City of Gdansk. The honorary patron is Paweł Adamowicz, the Mayor of Gdansk.
