Studios in the city
The project reflects the long-term interest of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava to maintain and develop relationships with its graduates, including the providing of studios at the beginning of their professional careers.
In order to help its graduates and support them in starting their professional lives, the AFAD aims to establish cooperation with external partners, who can provide their premises free of charge or for a small amount. These will be given for temporary use to emerging artists, designers, architects as work studios.
One of the first such partners is the Old Town district of Bratislava, which set aside four unused offices on Ventúrska, Školská streets and Františkánske square for our former students. The selected candidates will be provided the work space on the basis of the submitted application - for one year and free of charge.
"The new head of culture was thinking about how the municipality could cooperate with artists in new forms. An audit of the premises of the cultural centers of the Old Town offered her one of the possibilities. Thanks to her initiative, we decided to provide the empty offices so that they could be used for start-up, a kind of artistic incubator for emerging artists from the AFAD, "said the mayor of the Old Town Zuzana Aufrichtová for TASR.
"Acquiring premises or studios in Bratislava is a very complex and often financially demanding process for an emerging artist," Ľubica Hustá, head of the department of culture and cultural activities of the city district, told TASR. "We consider the temporary loan of space for free use as another effective way to support living culture and the art scene in this complicated period," concluded L. Hustá.
