The Academy of Fine Arts and Design offers study at the undergraduate - Bachelor’s (BS), graduate - Master’s (MS) and doctoral (DS) study levels. Bachelor’s and master’s study programmes may be studied only in daily form. Doctoral university study may be undertaken on a daily or external basis. The four-year bachelor study programmes finishes with a state exam, oral defence of the bachelor student’s work and the graduate is issued a diploma and awarded the title “bakalár”, in the abbreviation “Bc.” (equivalent to Bachelor of Fine Arts, BFA). Master’s study is two-year and finishes with a state exam, and oral defence of the diploma work. The graduate is issued a diploma and awarded the title “magister umenia”, in the abbreviation “Mgr.art” (equivalent to Master of Fine Arts, MFA). Doctoral study on a daily basis is three-year, and on an external basis 3 to 5-year and finishes with an oral defence of the dissertation work. A graduate in the field of study Fine Art, Design, and Restoration, Architecture is awarded the title “artis doctor”, in the abbreviation “ArtD.”, and in the field of study History and Theory of Fine Art and Architecture is awarded the title “philosophiae doctor”, in the abbreviation “PhD”.
