Main subject – STUDIO (practice based creative studio work)

Studio of Photography and Intermedia Overlaps
Assoc. Prof. Ing. Ľubo Stacho

BA level: The aim is to introduce the student to a broad range of photographic media from documentary photography through to its overlapping into other media. To teach self-expression by means of video, computer processing of the picture, installations, events. First part – analytical period – approximately half the semester comprises familiarisation with a given theme. Study of literature, exhibition visits, excursions, possibly a creative workshop. Developing methods of researching a theme. Writing of essays, explanations, analyses of a problem, etc. on the basis of the knowledge thus gained. Conclusion of the first period through discussion, reading of works, assessment of first studies, conception of final work. Second part – synthetic period – second half of the semester and research. On the basis of analysing knowledge room is given for intuition, experimentation, testing, alternating various possibilities.

MA level: The study leads to independent artistic expression with the effort being “to mine” primarily within oneself. Work is based on studying a given creative problem and the ability to theoretically conceive the focus of the work.

Studio “On Photography”
Asst. Prof. Silvia Saparová, MFA

BŠ: V bakalárskom stupni štúdia (2.- 4. ročník) je výučba v ateliéri orientovaná na komplexné osvojenie technologického použitia fotografie a skúmanie podstaty významu fotografického obrazu. Študenti sa, formou pravidelnej práce na zadaných témach, podtémach a cvičeniach, zamerajú na štúdium zásadných princípov fotografického obrazu a samotného vizuálneho jazyka fotografie. Východiskovým motívom je v prvej časti štúdia – 3 až 4 semester kompozícia foto obrazu a analýza fotografického snímania – videnia. Téma reflektuje zmeny vo výstavbe kompozície obrazu.: fragmentarizácie, deštrukciu kompozície, negáciu kompozície, a využívanie rôznych fotografických uhlov pohľadu…

Studio of Photography
Asst. Prof. Filip Vančo, MFA

BA level: Studio program is aimed at photography in the whole range of technological procedures – from back-and-white photography through to digital processing of the picture. The gradual introduction of themes leads students to continual work throughout the semester and creates the basis for regular consultations with the tutor. The level of demands of assignments is graded from the second through to the fourth year. The aim of the studio is to train visual creators – comprehensive personalities controlling the photographic medium, able to offer artistic solutions to visual problems of the present of the highest aesthetic-contentual quality.

MA level: The graduate study curriculum is a development of the ability to independently consider and formulate one’s own creative opinion. Students are guided as regards developing their individual programmes and towards maximum independence. Consultation sessions are held on a one-to-one basis. Maximum activity in the studio and a positive influence on students in lower years is expected from graduate students.

Photographic Techniques
Ivan Finta, MA

The core of the subject is the “shot technique”, comprising sensitometry, exponometry, and lighting. Following the end of this lecture – exercise students should be able to actively control a picture and with the aid of technical photographic means create a photo-tonal solution of a shot that fulfils their visual idea.
