Preparatory course for the 1st year
Preparatory Course in Architecture
Asst. Prof. MSc. Arch. Zoltán Holocsy
The course teaches students the basics of creating an architectural space, recognising the possibilities and specifics of expression with the help of this medium and to seek various ways of creating and generating architectural forms with an emphasis on the creative and compositional aspect. The practical part is supplemented by regular lectures, in which the work of contemporary international architects is presented.
Main subject – STUDIO (practice based creative studio work)
Studio II.
Asst. Prof. MSc.Arch.
Studio of Architecture III
Assoc. Prof. MSc. Arch. Ján Bahna, M.Arch.
BA level: Undergraduate study – In the first part of the study I want to teach the student an understanding of the essential architectural elements – space, ground plan, function, construction, structure, the idea and their mutual interaction. The student should also familiarise him/herself with the methods of architectural creation. The student should gain the basics of modelling depiction in materials as well as in virtual form. In theoretical preparation the student should gain the ability to define and defend their project.
MA level: Graduate study – At the second level of the study students should focus on deepening their knowledge in architecture, urbanism as well as interiors. Their assignments should be specialised on defining basic ideas, on theoretical analyses and considerations. In the process of a project they should move from urbanistic complexes through to the interior while taking account of spatial conceptions. The scope of projects should be graded and ended with an independent diploma work, which proves the diploma graduate’s ability to prepare a complex elaboration of a project.
Studio of Architecture IV – Architecture laboratory,
Assoc. Prof. Imrich Vaško, M.Arch.
BA level: The Architecture Laboratory Studio is a vertical architectural studio – a studio for students of the Department of Architecture. The Architecture Laboratory is an experimental architectural studio on the academic grounds testing contemporary architectural discourse of similar institutions in Europe and around the world. In the undergraduate programme students of the 2nd and 3rd years in a semester programme (a studio circulation model) participate in a joint collective assignment for the undergraduate and graduate programme in which they gain experience of team work in a studio and are confronted with projects of more experienced colleagues.
MA level: The Architecture Laboratory Studio is a vertical architecture studio – a studio for students of the Department of Architecture of AFAD in Bratislava at all three levels of university study – undergraduate, graduate and doctoral study. The Architecture Laboratory is an experimental architectural studio on the academic grounds testing contemporary architectural discourse of similar institutions in Europe and around the world. The studio projects are discussed at seminars and reviews with invited lecturers and are consulted with the Academy’s experts. The mixed environment of bachelor study graduates at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design and other architectural schools together with foreign students (Ahmedabad, Graz, Liberec…), additional students, doctoral students and students from other creative departments (graphic design, sculpture, painting) create a platform for open architectural research.
