MEDIUM GALLERY

Founded in January 1991, the MEDIUM Gallery is a part of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, where it also has its seat. Its exhibition activities are therefore an important part of the artistic and education plan of the academy. The MEDIUM gallery is open to all fields of contemporary visual art, in accordance with the wide range of disciplines that the academy offers to its students. When reviewing and approving exhibition projects, the most important criterion is the quality of the proposed project, however, the gallery board seeks balance in supporting students’ and professional exhibitions. In addition to this, the gallery tries to present different approaches of foreign art academies (Academy in Praha, Brno, Poznan, Kraków, Lódź, Budapest, St. Etienne, etc.) through exhibiting works of particular departments, studios or outcomes of international symposiums and workshops.

The exhibition activities (usually 10 to 12 exhibitions a year covering exhibition space of 173 m2) of the MEDIUM Gallery are always sponsored while the gallery publishes catalogues and sells revues and other publications on contemporary art in Slovakia.

The gallery board decides on exhibition plan for the following year in November, every year.
