The MEDIUM Gallery, in collaboration with NOVUM Foundation, opens the exhibition “Images of Algorithms – Algorithms of Images / The Nature of Research in Contemporary Art”. The show presents a selection of works by the artists who were awarded by the NOVUM Foundation in previous years. The NOVUM Foundation aims to support systematically excellent artists adhering to the widest spectrum of disciplines of contemporary visual art, design and architecture. At the moment, the 4th year of awarding culminates with the accompaniment of the exhibition and conference. The series of exhibitions strives not just to introduce the awarded artists but also to explore the topics shared by the artists awarded over the years. This year, the idea of algorithms appeared as the central topic, or, to be precise, the way it is reflected in the works by Dominik Hlinka, Magda Stanová, Juraj Sukop and Jaroslav Varga. What the exhibited artworks have in common is their authors’ interest in the process an image goes through in the age of digital reproduction and computational design. The transformed nature of artistic research leads in the end to the transformation of the self-reflection of the fine art itself and its definitions.
